“This was a fun DIY bath project that myself and my little one, who’s 5, created. We were going to make “Pop Rocks” Bath Salts… but once the colour of the Butterfly Pea Flower Powder shifted from blue, to pink, to purple, we agreed it was more intergalactic and deemed them Moon Rocks!” – Amy, from our design team.

Make these DIY Moon Rocks with children for a fun and explorative home experiment! They’re filled with natural pigments that light up the bath and fizz like no other!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients (powders) together (Epsom salt, baking soda, & citric acid). Stir until combined. Add Mica, if using.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the wet ingredients together (Castile soap/bubble bath, carrier oil, and essential oils and liquid colourants, if using - see notes for Butterly Pea powder). Combine well.
  3. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently stir. The mixture will be activated and foam slightly.
  4. Once combined, pour onto parchment paper-lined baking sheets. Spread out the mixture as best you can, then leave to air dry.
  5. Drying may take up to 3 days. (You can place trays out of sight - waiting can be hard!)
  6. Once dry, break up the sheets into smaller pieces. A pastry scraper, butter knife, or similar tool can be helpful if the mixture is too hard to break by hand.
  7. Transfer to a storage container(s) when completely dry.

Recipe Notes

If using Butterfly Pea Powder, mix 1 tablespoon with 1 tablespoon alcohol. Let sit to extract colour (and consider it as part of the wet ingredients).

To Use: Add to bathwater (approximately 1/2 cup - 1 cup).
